At the beginning of the film Ofelia is shown to be lying on the floor looking shocked/surprised, this clearly foreshadows something later on in the film that the audience isn't aware of as we haven't been shown anything else yet and are likely going to forget about this scene later on in the film. The shock on her face may represent how we are meant to feel about fascism during the film.
in the scene with the farmer, the farmer's son is shown tone cowering away from Vidal this is because he is known as a ruthless leader and even though he has done nothing wrong he is still terrified of what Vidal will do. This makes the audience dislike Vidal even more as he is shown as a scary soldier with a very straight back showing his discipline striking fear into normal civilian.
