similarities between vertigo and rear window

Gender roles
Both rear window and vertigo show women to be weak and defenceless, it also shows women's only power being sex and they can manipulate men only through sex and teasing. throughout both films the ideas of the women are generally ignored by most of the men with the detective in rear window calling women's intuition useless leading him on goose chases.
Editing
Alfred Hitchcock experiments with new techniques in both films for example when scotty wakes up and the flashback starts with bold colours flashing up on the screen. this idea was a driving force for cinema during the time vertigo was made. rear window adds affects when the flash is used against the murderer filling the screen up with red and orange to imitate the murderer being momentarily blinded.

Performance
In rear window the man is usually dressed in dry cold colours such as blue and grey where-as the women dress up in bright powerful colours such as bright green or white, these costumes are generally the same in vertigo as well with the women adding hope into the scene or enlighten the mans path allowing him to solve the crime. Additionally both films are based on a murder and the slow unravelling of the story of who did it this thriller genre is common among Hitchcock's work.
